Learning about Root Notes
We learned that the fretboard notes can have a letter or a letter with a sharp or a flat.
A Root Note is the first note in a Pentatonic Scale. It also gives the name of that scale.
For example: If you're playing a C Minor Pentatonic Scale, the Root Note is "C".
Look at the fretboard chart below and find all the "Cs". Each one can be a Root Note.
Another example: If your playing a B Flat Major Pentatonic Scale, the Root note is "B Flat" .
Look at the fretboard chart below and find all the "B Flats". Each one can be a Root Note.
One more example: If your playing a C Sharp Minor Pentatonic Scale, the Root note is "C Sharp".
Look at the fretboard chart below and find all the "C Sharps". Each one can be a Root Note.
The most important thing to remember is, a Root Note is the first note of a Pentatonic Scale.
Some frets have a Sharp and a Flat in them and some just have a letter.
